Excel Core Essentials 1 & 2

This course is for new and existing users of Excel who wish to acquire the basic skills required to create, edit, format and print spreadsheets effectively.

You can choose to do Core essentials session 1 or 2 or both depending on your requirements.

Duration 3 hours for each session (full day for both)

Remote Training Requirements Sessions will be hosted using either Webex or Microsoft Teams sessions
Attendees must have access to a PC/ Laptop that can access Webex or Microsoft Teams
Note This course should take place before a cutover

Course Content

Delegates will undertake the following modules:

Core essentials session 1:


  • Using the ribbon, Quick Access Toolbar & keyboard shortcuts
  • Creating a new workbook
  • Entering, editing & deleting data
  • Autofilling data
  • Working with SmartTags
  • Saving, closing & opening a workbook
  • Using zoom
  • Data navigation and selection
  • Undo & redo


  • Creating and editing basic formulas
  • Using AutoSum
  • Copying formulas
  • Creating basic statistical functions
  • Using absolute cell addresses
  • AutoCalculate


  • Inserting & deleting cells, columns and rows (and the impact on formulas)
  • Changing the size of columns & rows

Excel Core Essentials sessions 2:


  • Aligning data
  • Changing text and number formats
  • Copying formats using the Format Painter
  • Merging & splitting cells
  • Applying borders and shading


  • Checking spelling
  • Finding and replacing cell contents
  • Moving and copying data
  • Using the Clipboard


  • Using Print Preview
  • Changing worksheet orientation
  • Setting headers and footers
  • Additional Page Setup features
  • Printing
